City of Mathis Festivals and Events Committee (FEC)
History:
In late winter of 2002, the city manager together with the City of Mathis City Council voted to form a Festivals and Events Committee (FEC) to bring tourism and quality of live to the City of Mathis. A Volunteer Committee was recruited to produce and design sanctioned activities year round for the City of Mathis and surrounding Communities.
In 2006 the Committee became an official City Committee with elected board members. Ms. Lupe Holdiness was sworn in as its first Committee Chairperson and an official FEC Committee Board was formed.
Goals of the Committee:
FEC is dedicated to improving the quality of live by designing year round activities for the City of Mathis and it's surrounding communities. FEC activites include annual celebrations and wholesome family entertainment events.
FEC is committed to four important goals:
1. Promote the City of Mathis and Lake Corpus Christi:
The Committee has designed a calendar of events and activities for the community to attend in keeping to promoting tourism to visit the city and beautiful Texas State Park and Lake Mathis (aka lake Corpus Christi) home to a multitude of wildlife fishing, boating, and camping opportunities. The lake has over 400 different species of birds.
2. Promote and Work with Local Business:
The City of Mathis is experiencing tremendous business grow not see in over ten years with new hotels and private businesses being built within the city limits. This together with millions of dollars of street and highway improvements, a visionary new City government is growing. FEC is committed to help promote and help grow this business spur by providing events and activities to help promote and grow local retail opportunities for local business and its tourist destinations.
3. Bring the Community Together:
From students to senior citizens FEC is committed to recruit family and community leaders to help produce a variety of activity and events. FEC's most important goal is to bring the City of Mathis and surrounding communities together. Local proposals are encouraged to assure community input for future activities.
4. Bring more awareness to the City of Mathis:
The first task the committee undertook was to help design a new city slogan. Small Town, Big Lake, Great People was produced to showcase the unique and friendly atmosphere found throughout all the citizen community.
